Just got back from Canby, Oregon and have to say it was one of the best plant and garden sales I have ever attended. We set up Friday and the show started on Saturday with a line two blocks long of wagons waiting to get in the grounds.
I can't describe the frenzy of thousands of plants shoppers within the first few hours of the show but the order and polite behavior. I had my son man my booth and off I was picking up Japanese maples for $8 to $15 dollars, Russian Tomatoes, Gum Drops, just about every plant I have read about for this year at ridiculously low prices. The Master Gardeners of Clackamas County sure get a shout out from me for the quality and set up. They even had a room with homemade food and coffee for all the vendors that really helped and just shows how thoughtful these people are.
What struck me over and over was the loudspeaker announcing the news and raffle. Where else in the country do you hear "The person who withdrew money from the ATM and left cash, come to the main office, we have it waiting for you". "Wallet found in row xx", "plants left at booth xx, pick up". It was a weekend that restored my faith about what America and small towns are all about. Not to mention my own booth where people told me I gave them back to much change. WOW!
All in all, it was a fabulous show for me and Diggit Tools, Inc. who were my booth buddies. Janice, The Diggit Gardener is about as plant crazed as I am (maybe more) and I show you a picture of her carrying her tools in the back on her jeans trading her Diggits for plants. Way to go.
Luckily we sold alot of birdhouses and stands to have room to carry our nursery home. Will be back next year!
